16th Sept - Drought Tolerant Planting

£60.00

A look at the beautiful, easy, drought tolerant plants that grow here unwatered, but also an open discussion of the difficulties of drought in any style of garden and ways to cope. Our gardens are undeniably being put under increasing pressure from heat and drought in the summer months.  Although there are many fashionable ‘silver bullet’ solutions being offered, the reality is more nuanced – we need to learn to observe our gardens, adapt our timing and methods, and carefully fit our planting styles around the site we are gardening on, working with what we have rather than fighting against it.  A discussion of drought tolerant plants, but also a dive into soil types, ‘dry gardening’, mulching, watering practices, raising planting out of winter wet and adapting how and when jobs are done.  The best I can offer from my own experience and research to make gardening easier in what are challenging conditions.
